In the United States a metropolitan statistical area refers to a geographical region with a relatively high population density at its core and close economic ties throughout the area. Such regions are not legally incorporated as a city or town would be, nor are they legal administrative divisions like counties or sovereign entitites like states. As such the precise definition of any given metropolitan area can vary with the source. A typical metropolitan area is centered around a single large city that wields substantial influence over the region (e.g. Chicagoland). However, some metropolitan areas contain more than one large city with no single municipality holding a dominant position (e.g. Minneapolis – Saint Paul).
MSAs are defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget only, and used by the U.S. Census Bureau and other U.S. government agencies for statistical purposes only.[

Platini set to be re-elected as Uefa president

Platini has overseen a number of changes since he took over the role
Uefa president Michel Platini is set to be re-elected for another four-year term after being confirmed as the only candidate in next year's election.
Any rivals had to declare their candidacy to European football's governing body by Wednesday.
The former French captain, 55, beat longtime incumbent Lennart Johansson in a tight vote to gain the presidency in January 2007.
He will be formally re-elected at the Uefa Congress in Paris on 22 March.
Uefa said in a statement: "As of today, 23 December 2010, only one candidate has been announced - current Uefa president Michel Platini will be seeking a second four-year term of office from 2011 to 2015."
Since his appointment, Platini has overseen some significant changes in European club and international football.
From 2016, the European Championships final tournament will have 24 teams rather than 16, and he has also changed the Champions League format so that there are more league champions from smaller countries and fewer clubs from the bigger nations in the group stage.
The biggest change could be yet to come with Uefa's financial fair play rules coming into force from 2012. Under these, clubs in European football will be limited to spending what they earn, although there will be some flexibility in the first years of the scheme.
